We know Zer0 is male by the recording that can be found in the game where Zer0's target in the recording mentions "he" because he's gathering information on Zer0 that and from his voice modifier (if you haven't played tall tails borderlands spin off which IS cannon by the way Zer0 has a women's voice in that one.
